Social Networking: Is it Good for our Society? In July 2012, Americans spent a total of 121.1 billion minutes on social networking sites (procon.org). Social networking has become a big part of people’s lives today. According to a December 2012 Nielson â€Å"Social Media Report†, 20% of time spent on a home computer is on social media while 30% of mobile Internet time is spent on social networking sites (procon.org). Sixdegrees.com, which ran from 1997-2001, was the first ever social networking site. Now there has been many different social media sites such as, Friendster, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Some proponents of social networking sites say â€Å"online communities promote increased interaction with friends and family†Ã¢â‚¬ ¦show more content†¦Social networking can start the spread of untrue and potentially dangerous information. For example, on September 5, 2012 false rumors of fires, shootouts, and caravans of gunmen in a Mexico City suburb spread via Twitter and Facebook caused panic, flooded the local police department with over 3,000 phone calls, and temporarily closed schools (procon.org). Social media is also a source for criminals such as, burglars who would be more likely to find out peoples information via social media. Also, stalkers can gain information about a person from posts, photos, or location tagging services. Other criminals, like gangs use sites to initiate younger members, plan violent crimes, and threaten other gangs. The white supremacist group, Aryan Nation also uses social networking to recruit possible members (procon.org). Social networking is also a source for law enforcement to catch and try criminals. 67% of federal, local, and state officials surveyed think â€Å"social media helps solve crimes more quickly† (procon.org). First, the housing market is starting to come back to business, but it is taking some time. â€Å"Between 2002 and 2007, the population of prospective homeowners grew at an average annual rate of 2. 5 million. Over this same time period, the number of households increased by average of 1. 1 million. And to accommodate these newly formed households, homebuilders built an average of 1. 7 million housing units a year† (Maxfield, 2013). That is great for some people. When the United States was in the recession, there were many of people that lost almost everything that they owned. Anyone that is looking to buying a home, or having one built should take careful planning before doing so. People should consider that the United States could go into another recession at any time. Is the person going to be able to afford their home? That is the number one question a person should ask themselves. There are many people that try to live outside of their means. Sure it is nice if the person has a good job that is secure. Most jobs are not securing anymore, especially health care. The health care reform has everyone up in a roar. Some people agree with the reform and others do not. Employers are going to have to start paying for their employees to have insurance. The company must have at least 50 full-time employees to start the mandatory coverage. Complete Total; My contribution in the designing the schema In this task, I was responsible for specifying the different requirements for each of the six operation separately. After that, the requirements were combined in a single specification in order to determine and predict the behaviour of the proposed information system while carrying out the above mentioned different operation. Here it is important to state that, all the specifications are developed separately but it does not imply that each of them is to be implemented separately but they can be implemented in a combined way.
